About Mapricot

Mapricot is a location API that gives developers geocoding, place search, routing, and IP geolocation on open data for $0.10 per 1,000 requests, with free map tiles to show the results.

What makes Mapricot different

Most of the data and software behind maps is open. Mapricot runs it on servers it manages itself, so it can charge close to what a request costs.

One price for every request

Every geocoding, places, routing, and IP request costs $0.10 per 1,000, at any volume. Google Maps Platform charges $5.00 per 1,000 for geocoding and up to $40.00 for place search, and Mapbox prices each product separately.

250,000 free requests every 30 days, shared

The free allowance covers every API together. Google gives 10,000 free requests a month per API, and Mapbox gives each product its own allowance.

Free map tiles with no key

Mapricot's map tiles cost nothing and need no key. Mapbox charges $5.00 per 1,000 web map loads after 50,000 a month, and Google $7.00 per 1,000 after 10,000.

Pay as you go, with no card to start

Sign up with an email address and use the free allowance without a card. After that you pay as you go, buying credits in $25 increments, so you're never billed more than you bought. Google needs a billing account with a card from the start, with no limit on charges.

Open data you can keep

Results come from OpenStreetMap, Overture, OpenAddresses, and other open datasets, and you can store them and show them on any map with the credit each result names. Google's terms limit keeping most results to 30 days, and Mapbox charges $5.00 per 1,000 for geocoding results you store.

Who Mapricot is for

  • Developers adding an address form, a store finder, or a map to a web or mobile app
  • Startups and small teams who need geocoding or routing without a contract or a large minimum bill
  • Delivery, logistics, and field-service apps that geocode and route hundreds of thousands of times a month
  • Teams paying Google Maps Platform or Mapbox for the basics, who don't need reviews, photos, or live traffic
  • Projects that need results they can store, or a map they can show on any site with no key
