Free map tiles for MapLibre
Vector tiles at every zoom, in three styles, ready for MapLibre. No API key, nothing metered, and they never touch your free requests. Drag the map, or fly somewhere:
Buildings with real heights
The tiles carry OpenStreetMap's building heights, so one extra MapLibre layer turns a flat city into a 3D one. This is Midtown Manhattan, shaded from low to tall.
Drag to pan, or right-drag to tilt and turn.
Add a map
Point MapLibre GL JS at a style URL: light.json, dark.json, or grayscale.json under https://tiles.mapricot.com/styles/. Each style loads its tiles, fonts, and icons from there too, so there's nothing else to set up.
import * as maplibregl from "maplibre-gl";
const map = new maplibregl.Map({
container: "map",
style: "https://tiles.mapricot.com/styles/light.json",
center: [-122.68, 45.52],
zoom: 12,
});
// Draw a search result from the Places API on top.
new maplibregl.Marker().setLngLat([result.lon, result.lat]).addTo(map);
Using the tiles
Free for apps and websites
Tiles come from Cloudflare's edge. Each IP address can make about 1,200 tile requests a minute, plenty for people browsing a map. Please don't bulk-download them.
Credits shown for you
The styles credit Mapricot and OpenStreetMap, and MapLibre shows them in the corner of the map. Keep the OpenStreetMap credit visible: its license requires it.
Fresh about monthly
The tiles are Protomaps basemaps built from OpenStreetMap. The style URLs always point at the current build, so updates need no change on your side.
Other APIs
One account and one API key cover every Mapricot API, and the free allowance is shared between them.
