What reverse geocoding returns off the road

Reverse geocoding returns the nearest address. Where there isn't one, it falls back to the county, region, or country, and tells you the type and the distanceMeters to the match. In the open ocean you get an empty list, not a guess.

Data sources

Addresses and places come from OpenAddresses, OpenStreetMap, Overture, Who's On First, and GeoNames, indexed together in Pelias. Each response lists the credits for the sources in its results, so you know what to show.
