An OpenCage alternative with no monthly plan
OpenCage sells a geocoding API built on OpenStreetMap and other open data, with monthly plans that set a daily request allowance. Mapricot also geocodes on open data, and adds address autocomplete, nearby places, routing, IP geolocation, and free map tiles, at $0.10 per 1,000 requests after 250,000 free every 30 days, with no plan to pick.

When to choose each
Where Mapricot is stronger
- Pay per request from $0, with no monthly plan. OpenCage's first paid plan is $50 a month.
- Free requests you can use in production. OpenCage's free trial is for testing only.
- Address autocomplete, nearby places, routing, IP geolocation, and free map tiles under the same key.
- Invalid requests aren't billed. OpenCage counts bad requests toward usage.
Where OpenCage is stronger
- A flat monthly bill with soft limits: going over now and then costs nothing extra.
- Annotations on each result, such as the time zone, currency, and calling code.
- Spreadsheet uploads of up to 10,000 rows, and libraries for over 40 languages.
OpenCage pricing
OpenCage sells geocoding in monthly or annual subscriptions with a daily request allowance: X-Small at $50 a month for 10,000 requests a day, Small at $125 for 30,000, Medium at $500 for 125,000, and Large at $1,000 for 300,000. Limits are soft: a short spike costs nothing extra, but a higher daily average means moving up a plan. The free trial gives 2,500 requests a day, for testing only. One-time plans are also sold, with requests that last up to a year.

Places and autocomplete
Prices include VAT. The per-1,000 figures are OpenCage's own, for each plan used in full. Source: OpenCage pricing, last checked October 22, 2026. Mapricot charges $0.10 per 1,000 requests after 250,000 free every 30 days, shared by every API, and its map tiles are free with no key.
Differences to plan for
- Requests: OpenCage uses one endpoint,
/geocode/v1/json, for both directions: a text query geocodes, and alatitude, longitudequery reverse geocodes. The key goes in the URL. Mapricot has separate/v1/searchand/v1/reverseendpoints, and the key goes in theAuthorizationheader. - Results: OpenCage returns each result's position in
geometrywithlatandlng, and its address parts incomponents. Mapricot returnslatandlonon the result, and the address parts inaddress. - Storing results: Both are built on open data and let you keep results permanently. Mapricot's results name their source and the credit to show.
- Autocomplete: OpenCage's Geosearch suggests place names, such as cities and neighbourhoods, through a JavaScript library. Mapricot's
/v1/autocompleteis an API that suggests addresses and places as well, with coordinates in each suggestion.
