Mapricot launches
Mapricot is open to everyone. It's one API key for geocoding, places, routing, IP geolocation, and map tiles, built on open data that you can keep and show on any map. Sign in at app.mapricot.com to create a key.
Geocoding
Geocoding turns an address or place name into coordinates, suggests addresses as someone types, and finds the address at a point. Where there's no address nearby, such as in rural Oregon, it returns the town, county, region, or country around the point. It takes coordinates at any precision, so a float from a map click or a spreadsheet works as it is.
Places
Places finds what's near a point by category, such as coffee shops or pharmacies, and looks up any place by its Mapricot ID. Results include phone numbers, websites, social links, brands, and opening hours when the source has them. Places and addresses come from OpenStreetMap, Overture, OpenAddresses, Who's On First, and GeoNames.
Routing
Routing finds driving, cycling, and walking routes anywhere in the world, through up to 20 stops, on a road network built from the whole of OpenStreetMap. Routes can include turn-by-turn directions in 31 languages, and a line as GeoJSON that maps draw without decoding. Isochrones show how far you can travel in a given time.
IP geolocation
IP geolocation gives the approximate country, region, and city of any public IPv4 or IPv6 address, from each monthly DB-IP City Lite release.
Map tiles
Map tiles are free vector tiles for MapLibre, in five styles: Light, Dark, Grayscale, Bright, and Outdoors, a hiking map with trails and peaks. They take a key but aren't metered, and each IP address can load about 6,000 tiles a minute.
Maps to build yourself
The map gallery has 12 live maps made on Mapricot, from 3D skylines to hurricane tracks and satellites overhead. Each one has a tutorial and the data it uses, so you can build it yourself.
Pricing
Every account gets 250,000 free requests every 30 days, shared across geocoding, places, routing, and IP geolocation. Map tiles don't count. After that, it's $0.10 per 1,000 requests, from credits sold in $25 increments. Pricing has a calculator.
