A GraphHopper alternative with no monthly plan
GraphHopper is an open-source routing engine for OpenStreetMap. The company behind it sells the GraphHopper Directions API: routing, route optimization, matrices, isochrones, map matching, and geocoding, in monthly plans paid in daily credits. Mapricot is a hosted routing, geocoding, and places API on open data, at $0.10 per 1,000 requests after 250,000 free every 30 days, with no plan to pick.
Equivalent APIs
Each Mapricot API next to the GraphHopper product that does the same job. Mapricot's API isn't compatible with any other provider's, so switching means changing requests and response handling.

Prices are in euros, billed monthly. The per-1,000 figures are the Basic plan used in full: 150,000 credits over 30 days. Credit costs are from GraphHopper's help article on credits. Differences to plan for
- Requests: GraphHopper's
GET /routetakes each point aspoint=latitude, longitudeand aprofilesuch ascar. Mapricot'sPOST /v1/routetakes a JSON body withwaypointsas{"lat": …, "lon": …}and amodeofdrive, walk, orbicycle. - Polylines: GraphHopper encodes route geometry as a polyline with five decimal places by default. Mapricot's has six, so decode with precision 6.
- Routes: Mapricot returns the distance, travel time, and a line for the route, and the distance and time of each leg, through up to 20 stops. It doesn't return turn-by-turn instructions, alternative routes, or matrices.
- Geocoding: Both search OpenStreetMap-based data. Mapricot's results also draw on Overture, OpenAddresses, Who's On First, and GeoNames, and each names its source.
- Engine: Mapricot's routing runs on Valhalla, another open-source engine, so routes and travel times on the same roads can differ a little from GraphHopper's.
