Changelog

What's changed in the API, the data, and billing, newest first. Changes that need anything from you say so.

  1. · Map tiles

    Maps credit Mapricot and OpenStreetMap

Maps on tiles.mapricot.com now show “Mapricot © OpenStreetMap” in the corner, linking to both. You don't need to change anything. Keep the OpenStreetMap credit visible: its license requires it.

  2. · Billing

The free allowance resets every 30 days

Your 250,000 free requests now reset every 30 days, counted from the day you created your account, instead of on the first of each month. The dashboard's usage page says when your period started and when it resets, and charts the last 30 days by product, with a table view.

  3. · Map tiles

Tiles served from Mapricot's own servers

Tiles, styles, fonts, and icons now come from Mapricot's servers behind Cloudflare's cache. Each IP address can make about 1,200 tile requests a minute. The tiles are Protomaps' build of OpenStreetMap from October 20, 2026.

  4. · IP geolocation

Monthly DB-IP releases, checked on download

IP geolocation installs each monthly DB-IP City Lite release straight from DB-IP and checks it against DB-IP's published checksum. Responses name the release in datasetRelease, currently 2026-10.

  5. · Routing

    Routing covers the whole world

Routing now uses a road network built from the whole of OpenStreetMap, from the planet file of September 21, 2026, for driving, cycling, and walking routes anywhere.

  6. · Geocoding

Reverse geocoding falls back to the area around a point

When there's no address near a point, /v1/reverse now returns the locality, county, region, or country that contains it, instead of an empty list. A point in rural Oregon, for example, returns Crook County. Only a point outside every area, such as the open ocean, returns nothing.
